Dennis F. Smith

SANDWICH — Dennis Francis Smith, 59, of Cross Street died at home Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001. He was the husband of Susan D. (Golenski) Smith, formerly of New Bedford. They celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary on Oct. 8.

Born in Cambridge, he was the son of Walter J. Smith of Dunbarton, N.H., and Dorothy (Buckle) Duncklee of Orleans. He was the stepson of Evelyn Smith of Dunbarton. He lived in Sandwich for 30 years, with the exception of a couple of years when he resided in North Conway, N.H. He previously lived in Nashua, N.H.

Mr. Smith and his wife owned and operated Foundation Seal Coating Co. in Sandwich for the past 14 years. Previously, he was a self-employed real estate broker operating under Dennis F. Smith Realty Associates. Previously, he worked for P.A. Thompson Realty Co.

He attended schools in Arlington and Hollis, N.H. He served in the Air Force from 1959-63 during the Vietnam era.

A dog lover, he was a member of the English Springer Spaniel Field Trail Club for many years. He was actively involved in training and handling English springer spaniels for American Kennel Club events, such as field trials and hunt tests. He belonged to a number of related clubs and organizations throughout New England.

Survivors include his widow; his parents; his stepmother; a son, Russell Smith of Nashua; a daughter, Laurie Makarawicz of Pittsfield, N.H.; two sisters, Nancy Kapinsky of Mashpee and Helen Duncklee Zatran of Marstons Mills; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Maureen Simonson.

His funeral and burial were private.
